Algimantas Patricijus Taškūnas was born in Alytus (Lithuania) in 1929. He came to Australia as an indentured migrant in 1949. While in full-time employment, he studied at night and completed three degrees from three Australian universities: B.Com. (W.Aust.), B.A.Hons. (Tas.), M.Ed.Admin.(N.E.). Taškūnas spent the last 25 years of his working life as an administrator and executive officer at the Universities of Western Australia (1969-72) and Tasmania (1972-94). In addition, he was part-time Lecturer in management, industrial relations and Science German. He is still continuing some his teaching activity now. In his spare time, Taškūnas edited Baltic News (1975-90), the widest read English-language Baltic periodical in the Southern hemisphere; and Lithuanian Papers, a refereed journal published by the Lithuanian Studies Society at the University of Tasmania (since 1987). Algimantas Taškūnas was honoured with an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 1991. He is married, has two daughters and two sons.
