8.7 Proposals by Member States for the celebration of anniversaries with which UNESCO should be associated in 1996-1997 (147 EX/47 and Add. and Corr., and 147 EX/55 and Corrigenda). - p. 46-47.

The Executive Board, having considered the proposals by Member States for the celebration of anniversaries with which UNESCO shall be associated in 1996-1997, recommends to the General Conference:

(a) that UNESCO associate itself with the following celebrations in 1996-1997, in addition to the 25 already recommended at its 146th session:

(I) Two-hundred-and-fiftieth anniversary of the birth of the Polish patriot Tadeusz Kosciuszko;
(II) Centenary of the birth of the Polish writer Jozef Czapski;
(III) Centenary of the death of the Colombian poet José Asunción Silva;
(IV) Hundred and thirtieth anniversary of the birth of the Georgian painter Nico Pirosmanishvili;
(V) Centenary of the birth of the diplomat of the Slovak Republic Jan Papanek;
(VI) Centenary of the birth of the Iranian poet Nima Yushij;
(VII) Centenary of the birth of the Bulgarian painter Tsanko Ivanov Lavrenov;
(VIII) Four-hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Ukrainian man of culture Petro Mohyla;
(IX) Six-hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Iranian poet Mohammad Jami;
(X) Nine-hundredth anniversary of the death of the Iranian scholar Omar Khayyam;
(X) Centenary of the death of the Philippine humanist and national hero Jose Rizal;
(XI) Centenary of the birth of the Romanian poet Tristan Tzara;
(XII) Eleven-hundredth anniversary of the settlement of the Hungarians in Central Europe;
(XIV) Four-hundred-and-fiftieth anniversary of the publication of he first work in the Lithuanian language - ‘Common Words in the Catechism’ by Martinas Mažvydas;
(XV) One-thousand-five-hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Arabpoet Imru’ al-Qais;
(XVI) Five-hundredth anniversary of the publication in Russia of the first State Code of Laws, the Sudebnik;
(XVII) Five-hundredth anniversary of the construction of the Neamt monastery;
(XVIII) Centenary of the death of Gamal ad-Din al-Afghani;
(XIX) Centenary of the birth of Mahmud Said;
(XX) Seven-hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Arab historian Salah ad-Din as-Safadi;
(XXI) Eleven-hundredth anniversary of the documentary evidence of   Romanian States in Transylvania;

(b) that the Organization’s contribution to these celebrations be financed in the usual way under the Participation Programme for 1996-1997, in accordance with the rules governing that programme.
