PERPETUATING THE REMEMBRANCE OF M.MAŽVYDAS IN KARALIAUČIUS

Many events were held in Lithuania and in the World to commemorate the 450th anniversary   of the first Lihuanian book publishing. Some of them were held in Kaliningrad region, the place connected with the history of Catechismus by Martynas Mažvydas and the author.

According to the The National Programme of the 450th Anniversary of the first Lithuanian book written by Martynas Mažvydas it was planned to erect a monument to M. Mažvydas in Ragainė (Nemanas), to fasten the commemorative plaque dedicated to M. Mažvydas near the church in Ragainė, to erect a commemorative sign at the site of the old castle in Karaliaučius (Kaliningrad) dedicated to Hans Weinreich, the printer of the first Prussian and Lithuanian books.

But some disagreements with the administration of the Kaliningrad region delayed or even stoped  planed  actions, some were changed. At last, 19th June the commemorative plaque dedicated to M. Mažvydas was fastened at the Kaliningrad University, closely connected with M. Mažvydas most important period of work.
